Sustainability Workshop - Stevenage Time: 10am-4pm Organisers: FIRA Date: 25 Nov 2008
Lean Workshop
ukfirst’s Master Engineer David Storer ran a Lean Workshop at FIRA’s Stevenage offices in November. Thirteen delegates including Managing Directors, Managers and Engineers working within the furniture and wood industries attended, representing companies small and large.
The workshop was designed as an introduction to Lean and included explanations of some of the key principles including the 5Cs and 7 Wastes.
Attendees experienced some of the models through role play and were given the opportunity to ask an expert specific questions relating to their businesses and how Lean could benefit them.
Feedback was positive including the following comments from delegates:
‘The manufacturing game allows theory to be put into practice and makes the principles easier to understand and remember.’
‘Opportunity to step back from the workplace and consider how ‘lean’ thinking could benefit us’
‘Practical workshop – helped one appreciate the differences that could be made by working as a team.’
‘Lean is a journey, which people need to be taken on in most cases. Support and encouragement from ukfirst is what people need so future workshops and other aspects would be useful.’
The next Lean workshop will be held on 20th February 2007 in Staffordshire. Simply contact Haley Flynn to book a place on 01438 777801 or email
