JCB Best Practise Visit
Over twenty senior managers from across the furniture and timber industries met in Staffordshire in February to learn more about lean manufacturing and then see it in action at JCB’s world headquarters.
Ukfirst, whose mission is to help the furniture industry to compete through world class performance, facilitated the event giving delegates the opportunity to learn some basic principles of lean and then put it in context by examining recent case studies.
Delegates from companies as varied as Arden Windows, Hypnos and Sigma 3 Kitchens took part in a plant tour of JCB in Rocester, Staffordshire and were able to see behind the scenes at this successful global company. It was clear from the tour that lean manufacturing is the key to their success with visual management and cultural change apparent. A highlight for delegates was seeing the famous JCB’s in action whilst being test driven around a circuit.
