Sustainability Workshop - Stevenage Time: 10am-4pm Organisers: FIRA Date: 25 Nov 2008
Mastering Material Waste Reduction
To be held at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, Warwickshire, the Conference theme this year is sustainability, and these programmes will help companies in the furniture and timber related industries reduce their material wastage levels. Each of the programmes – which will be showcased during workshop sessions in the afternoon – will help businesses save money and become more environmentally friendly.
Aimed at business directors, production/works managers and team leaders, first steps to success in material waste reduction leads the way for sustainable results to be achieved in the future by identifying improvements. This programme quantifies your raw material inventory, assesses and categorises waste and helps to develop data driven management and decision making techniques.
Snapshot material solutions is the second of the programmes and involves ukfirst master engineers working with the operations team in a focus area of the company’s choice to identify root causes of material problems and provide solutions. ukfirst applies proven tools and techniques which will improve use of materials, reduce waste, improve profitability and create employee awareness and ownership.
Materials masterclass will identify and introduce improvements which will significantly improve and optimise material use and control. It includes a strategic review and analysis, measurement tools, an improvement activity and three follow-ups where checks, advice and further support are given.
Programme Director John Baldwin said: “UK furniture manufacturers spend on average 3.83% of their turnovers dealing with material waste issues. Given the direct impact this has on a company’s profitability, we felt that the expertise of ukfirst Master Engineers should be directed at this important area.”
