Thirty senior managers from across the furniture industry came together to see the successful lean manufacturing processes behind BMWÆs Mini.
Facilitated by ukfirst, the furniture industry forum, participating delegates took part in an introductory lean workshop in which they were introduced to some of the main principles of lean.
Following on from this they took part in a plant tour of BMWÆs Mini production plant in Oxford. In 2004 189,492 MINI saw the light of day, with up to 600 MINI being built per day a truly lean operation is required of them. This was clearly visible with their use of Visual Management, Cultural Change, Team Work and Continuous Improvement; all key themes highlighted during the workshop.
The day was boosted a great success and gave delegates an opportunity to pick up some basic principles of lean and then see world class lean manufacturing in action.
