Quality Improvement Workshop
This case study demonstrates that even those held in high regard within the industry can make good use of ukfirst' lean principles. After undertaking the renowned Quality Improvement Workshop, DFS have achieved a higher level of quality throughout their entire business, which in turn has benefited in greater customer satisfaction.
Objectives
- To improve quality throughout manufacturing operation
- To understand and optimise the value stream
- To challenge the traditional lead times and cycle times
- To establish best practise and ways of sharing it across the operations
- To reduce and eliminate key areas of customer complaints
- To develop a best practise and continuous improvement culture
Approach
The projects focused on quality which involved; excellence of service, deliveries on time and in full, correct specification, defect free and life cycle durability. Together with a ukfirst Master Engineer, the team identified that the four key improvement areas were to improve quality, learn new skills and ensure job security.
Tools and Techniques
Using the ukfirst Lean toolbox, the team put into practise the '5 Why' technique and the 'Fish Bone cause and effect analysis. Data analysis from across the supply chain highlighted key quality issues affecting the business and ultimately its customers.
